How to deal with problematic sessions on Windows with NX Client 3.5.0
Users of Vista and Windows 7 who are encountering problems with running older versions of NX Client 3.x should try the suggestions below:
When opening an NX session in fullscreen mode or in a windowed NX session on Windows Vista or 7, some performance issues may be noticed, e.g. the window movement is slow or CPU usage is high.
The event log can report the following information:
A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (nxwin.exe)
It has been verified that the issue occurs with DirectDraw engine enabled but does not when using the GDI system. A Trouble Report was opened and subsequently fixed and should no longer affect users of NX Client 3.5.0.
Affected users are invited to disable DirectDraw in the NX Client GUI -> Advanced ->System panel by selecting the 'Disable DirectDraw for screen rendering' option.
It has also been reported to us that NX Client can crash on Vista 64 bit when starting a session, and that on Windows 7 the session will start and then subsequently crash upon connecting to the NX server. Disabling DD can also be a workaround for those encountering this behaviour.
Users are also invited to check the Trouble Reports section of the Knowledge Base for a complete list of bug reports for NX Client on Vista or Windows 7. If the problem encountered is not in this list, please contact us with a complete bug report.
