How to manage services and server settings with NoMachine 4

Once any of the NoMachine servers has been installed, your NoMachine is up and running and ready for accepting connections. No further configuration is necessary.

If you want to manage any of the available services or change settings for your server machine, access the Server Settings UI in either of the following ways:

- by choosing 'Show the server status' from the Monitor in your system tray (!M icon), and click on 'Server Preferences' from there.

- by running the NoMachine UI from your Programs Menu or Start screen and clicking on the 'Change server settings' icon.

Manage services

The Server Settings UI ->  Network services shows the current status of services and configuration. You can modify settings or start and stop services from there. To do that you will be requested to provide the username and password of an administrative account on your machine. Check that changes are enabled by looking at the padlock on the bottom left of the server settings UI.

Configure access to the desktop

By default NoMachine server is configured to give access to the  desktop by requiring the desktop owner's permission.

In this way the desktop owner can decide whether to accept or deny another user from connecting. Allowing users to connect only with owner's approval means that owner must be physically sitting in front of your computer to authorize or deny access.

This setting can be changed from the Server settings -> Desktop access panel.

Changing the default can be useful when you want to connect to your own computer from a different location, for example at home, and nobody is sitting there to accept your connection request.
