NoMachine packages naming convention and usage

NoMachine offers different sets of packages tailored for different scenarios.

The free packages

These are the NoMachine and the NoMachine Enterprise Client packages. They have an unlimited validity period and don't require the purchase of a license. They provide libraries to support the H.264 codec since v. 6.6.8 (ref. https://www.nomachine.com/SU04Q00203).

You can download the NoMachine package here:

https://www.nomachine.com/download

and the Enterprise Client from the 'NoMachine Enterprise Client' section at the bottom page here:

https://www.nomachine.com/download-enterprise

The naming convention for the NoMachine packages uses only the 'nomachine' keyword, for example:

nomachine_6.6.8_6_amd64.deb

while the naming convention for the client packages relies on the 'nomachine-enterprise-client' keyword, for example:

nomachine-enterprise-client_6.6.8_6_x86_64.rpm

The evaluation packages

Each server product has an evaluation version. Evaluation packages include a 30-day license. They also provide libraries for H.264 encoding since v. 6.6.8.

You can download the evaluation packages here:

https://www.nomachine.com/download-enterprise

The naming convention for these packages is to include the 'evaluation' keyword, for example:

nomachine-workstation-evaluation_6.6.8_7_amd64.deb

The customers' server packages

Customers should log-in to their Customer Area (https://www.nomachine.com/support#login)  to download their server packages.

When they purchase or renew a license, customers are entitled to download the correspondent server package for a production environment. This package provides libraries for H.264 and a 30-days license to be replaced with the recently acquired license (the purchased license can be downloaded from the Customer Area as well).

Since v. 6.6.8, a server installation for evaluation can be activated for production by replacing its server.lic and node.lic files with the customer license files: https://www.nomachine.com/AR02M00837 .

Naming convention for the 'production' packages includes the name of the product. For example:

nomachine-enterprise-terminal-server_6.6.8_6_x86_64.rpm
nomachine-workstation_6.6.8_6_amd64.deb

Customers can download two production package for each license due to royalties to be paid for being compliant with MPEGLA policies.
A 'Send request' button permits to contact our Team to re-enable the link if, for example, the download didn't complete succesfully.

When a new release is made available, customers will find new packages for update in their Customer Area.  Download links are automatically re-enabled at every software update.

Server packages in the Customer Area can be used for new installations or for upgrading existing installations v. 5 or v. 6.

The build number
Each package has a version number made of two parts: the release version (e.s. 6.6.8) and the build number which is just a progressive number incremented when the software is re-packaged. A different build number doesn't affect the content of the package: all changes included in for example nomachine-workstation_6.6.8_6_amd64.deb are present also in nomachine-workstation_6.6.8_7_amd64.deb.
