Migrating your NoMachine subscription license to a new host

NoMachine support and licenses are tied to the operating system and hardware specifications of the server where NoMachine is installed. This is important to remember if you decide to migrate your subscription license to a new host which is of a different operating system and/or with different CPU cores, for example.

Migration between different Operating Systems
When migrating between different operating systems — for example, from Windows to Linux, Linux to macOS, or vice versa — new license files and software packages are required. In such cases, please contact us to obtain the appropriate license files and instructions on how to proceed. Kindly note that this change is permitted once per subscription term at no extra cost.

Migration between Linux distributions
When migrating between different Linux distributions — for example, from Red Hat to Ubuntu, SUSE to Fedora, or vice versa — new license files are not required. For detailed instructions on migrating your license, please refer to this article. Before proceeding with the migration, ensure that the new system meets all hardware requirements (refer below).

Migration between hosts with different CPU specifications
If the new host has different hardware specifications — for example, a different number of CPU cores — a new license file is required to match the new hardware configuration. For instance, if your original license was purchased for a 2-CPU system and you are migrating to a 4-CPU server, the license must be upgraded. Please contact us to confirm the process and any applicable costs for the remainder of your subscription term.
