Missing fonts when connected from client 4 on Mac OS X to server 3.5.0
When sessions are connected from a Mac 10.8 or 10.9 (which don't have the X11 server installed by the default) to NX Server 3.5.0 on Linux, only a minimal set of fonts is available inside the session.
That's because NX 3.5.0 expects that X11 core fonts are available on both server and client side. On client side, NoMachine 4 (as well as NX client 3.5.0), retrieves the list of X11 fonts from the system. Such fonts are provided with the installation of the X11 server, XQuartz.
To install XQuartz on your Mac, start the X11 application under the Utilities folder: a dialog will point you to the website to download the PKG.
You can then verify which fonts are available by running a terminal inside your NoMachine session and execute the following command:
xlsfonts | wc -l
If you don't want to install XQuartz, you can copy X11 fonts from a Mac where they are installed. They are placed in the /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts directory.
Please note also that version 4, instead, no longer needs that X11 fonts are installed on the client side. Upgrading the server from 3.5.0 to 4 will solve the problem of missing fonts inside the session.
