Why NoMachine doesn't offer older versions for download
This is 100% intentional. Keeping gigabytes of data online 365 days of the year is a costly service. We therefore choose to offer the latest version online.
Very often links to the package download are included in mailing-lists, news articles and other resources outside the control of NoMachine. In the past, often users have unknowingly happened to download outdated packages that contained unpatched flaws or that couldn't work with newer OS versions. This has caused many headaches to people involved in the support team. Consequently, NoMachine has started to offer for download only the latest versions of its software. These versions, while backward compatible, contain fixes to problems that were reported by customers in the previous months, so that our developers and support staff can concentrate on new issues without having to deal again with problems that have been already resolved.
You should also note that software distribution has a non-negligible cost. Letting people download an older version just to let them find later that a new version is available is surely not what most people want. If you have purchased the software and want to be able to restore at any time the initial configuration, you should make sure that you make a backup copy of the original packages and keep them in a safe place.
Obviously, NoMachine has strict configuration management policies and keeps a rigorous history of its releases. We are able to ship old versions to registered customers that make an explicit request, under the provision of their support entitlement. This means that customers are advised to keep their subscriptions/licenses up-to-date.
It is worth noting that NoMachine gives all its possible attention to ensuring backward compatibility between different releases. Upgrading to a newer NX version should be a safe process in all the most common conditions.
