Why the client needs to install the NoMachine Device Server on Windows

The NoMachine Device Server (nxservice) is a service process installed on Windows by the NoMachine setup, even in case of an Enterprise Client package.

This service encapsulates the nxusb and nxdisk services necessary respectively for forwarding USB devices and sharing disks inside the NoMachine session. These services are internal to the NoMachine application and cannot be managed directly by Windows tools such as 'Services' or 'sc'.

Note that when the service is stopped it will be no longer possible to forward USB devices or sharing remote disks inside the NoMachine connection.

 

Current installation packages do not offer the possibility to skip the installation of NoMachine Device Server but the implementation of a portable version of the client (which doesn't install drivers and services) may be helpful also in this case:
