Format of NoMachine files from v. 7 onwards
NoMachine v. 7 introduces a new format of files which distinguishes between their usage:
| File Format | Scope |
| .nxs | connection file for desktop and web clients(*) |
| .nxw | web connection via browser for desktop client |
| .nxr | NoMachine video recording (readable by NoMachine client and multimedia players) |
| .nxv | NoMachine video recording, legacy (readable only by NoMachine client) |

These files are all placed by default in the 'NoMachine directory' in the user's 'Documents' directory:
/Users/USERNAME/Documents/NoMachine on macOS
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\NoMachine on Windows
/home/USERNAME/Documents/NoMachine on Linux
or in the directory specified in the client UI.
