NX 4 Fourth Preview Release Announcement

Rome, Italy, April 22, 2011 - NoMachine announces today the fourth
preview release of NX 4.0, the upcoming version of the NX remote access
and virtual desktop software. Preview 4 offers many changes over the
previous version, and also gives NX users the opportunity to test and
respond to new features.

Here's a glance at what's included:

  • A
completely new look & feel of the GUIs and of the NX toolbar
displayed inside the session makes the NX Player and the NX Web Player
    more intuitive and user-friendly.

  • Initial support for iOS devices is now available with NX Web Player.

  • Reduced bandwidth usage and increased performance especially with remote desktop sessions and browser-based sessions.

  • Optimized video/audio synchronization even on slower connections.

  • Microphone
support quality has been improved. The new NX toolbar also gives the
possibility to adjust the volume of the remote speakers and microphone.

Important Notes

    • Please
note that the quality of the software is sub-alpha and it is not
intended to replace the stable 3 releases in any way yet. Note also that
most features introduced in the new Player depend on the presence of
the NX 4 installation on the server. If you want to get a real sense of
what NX 4 will be, please be sure you install the NX Player on the
client and the NX Virtual Desktop Workstation on the computer you want
to access from remote. Note also that the server packages will provide an evaluation period of 60 days,

    • The
packages and libraries comprising a NX 4 installation contain
significant differences, compared to version 3. The final release will
contain scripts guiding the user through the upgrade process. At the
moment, to install the preview, it is required that you first uninstall
any previous NX 3 setup. Detailed instructions on how to backup the
previous installation and proceed to the upgrade can be found here. Any further upgrade of the 4 packages should not present any problem.

    • Compatibility
between the 3 and the 4 will be fully preserved. There may be bugs
when connecting with a client 3 to a server 4 and viceversa. These bugs
will be resolved in the final release.
