Updates to NoMachine 4 Preview 6
Rome, Italy, June 12, 2012 - NoMachine announced today that updates to Preview 6 have been released. The latest packages not only extend the 60-day preview period, but also provide fixes for a number of bugs:
- Sessions may fail to start on Mac OS X 10.7.4.
- Web session cannot be started on devices running Android 4 or later.
- A virtual session can terminate unexpectedly while running some applications.
- The Player on Mac OS X may send unwanted characters to the session.
- Some custom sessions may not be available for reconnection when server is NX 3.5.0-9.
- The Alt and Ctrl keys are no more visible in the NoMachine virtual keyboard when language settings are changed.
About NoMachine 4
The preview of NoMachine 4 introduces a brand new product "NoMachine" for remote control and access of Windows, Mac and Linux hosts aimed at the consumer market. NoMachine Virtual Desktop Workstation for Linux offers the user 4 concurrent connections to run virtual X11 desktops. The Workstation is a member of the upcoming "NoMachine for the Enterprise" suite which will replace and extend the NX 3.5.0 product range currently in use.

Important Notes
Updating installation of NoMachine preview 6
Updating the previous installation of the NoMachine software in preview stage is not supported.
If you want to get 60 days of validity for the NoMachine server software since the date of this release, you need to install the new preview packages from scratch.
Uninstall your current server installation, remove the NoMachine installation directory and install any of the new NoMachine server packages.
Also in case of NoMachine Player, It is strongly suggested you uninstall the Player, remove its installation directory and proceed with a fresh install of the package.

Remarks for installation on server side
What the package includes
Any of the NoMachine server packages installs NoMachine Player, the NoMachine web tools, a small web server (NoMachine HTTP Server) and the NoMachine Service gui for managing your NoMachine.
How to run web sessions with NoMachine Web Player
You can access the web tools by pointing your browser to https://serverHost:4080 where serverHost is either IP or hostname of the machine where you have installed the NoMachine package.
Please note that the installation comes with a self-signed SSL certificate intended to be a sample, which doesn't grant a secure connection. In order to secure your web application, please replace the SSL Certificate File, namely /usr/NX/etc/httpd.crt and the SSL Certificate Key File /usr/NX/etc/httpd.key with your own.
Where the software installs
The software installs by default in the '/usr' directory on Linux and 'C:\Program Files' on Windows. On Mac OS X, the package is installed in Applications.
Notes for Linux users
You can use the graphical package manager provided by your Linux distribution or follow instructions below to be run from a terminal. Instructionsuse the sudo utility. If you don't have the sudo utility installed, you can log on as superuser ("root") and run the commands without sudo.
Instructions for RPM , DEB and tar.gz packages refer to the 32 bit package (i686 or i386) and can be easily extended to the 64bit package (x86_64 or amd64).
Installing NoMachine on Windows
Uninstall NoMachine Preview 6 if you have it already: from the program Menu choose NoMachine item and run 'Uninstall NoMachine'' . Accept to reboot the machine.
- Download the EXE.
- Install it by double clicking on the icon of the executable: the setup wizard will take you through the installation.
At this preview stage, the installation requires administrative privileges and a reboot of the host machine to complete.
Installing NoMachine on Mac OS X
Uninstall NoMachine Preview 6 if you have it already: from Applications, choose 'Show Package Content' for the NoMachine Service bundle and navigate it to Contents/MacOS. Run the nxuninstaller program from there.
- Download the DMG.
- Double-click on the the disk Image to open it and see package icon. Double-click on the package icon to install the program: the setup wizard will take you through the installation.
At this preview stage, the installation requires administrative privileges.
Installing NoMachine on Linux
Uninstall NoMachine Preview 6 and remove manually the installation directory, usually /usr/NX:
$ cd /usr
$ sudo rm -rf NX
RPM version
To uninstall previous preview version, run the 'rpm -e nxserver' command.
- Download the RPM.
- Install the package by running from a console:
$ sudo rpm -i nxserver-abc-4.0.X-Y.i686.rpm
DEB version
To uninstall previous preview version, run the 'dpkg -r nxserver' command.
- Download the DEB.
- Install the package by running from a console:
$ sudo dpkg -i nxserver_abc_4.0.X-Y_i686.deb
TAR.GZ version
To uninstall previous preview version, run the 'NX/scripts/setup/nxserver --uninstall' command.
- Download the TAR.GZ in the /usr directory.
- Extract the archive by running from a console:
$ sudo tar xvzf nxserver-abc-4.0.X-Y.i686.tar.gz
- Run the setup script for installing the software:
$ sudo /usr/NX/nxserver --install

What to do for running a session
To connect the remote desktop or run a virtual desktop session on the NoMachine server host, install the NoMachine Player package suitable for your operating system. As an alternative, you may run the session from a browser via NoMachine Web Player. NoMachine Web Player is installed with the server package and immediately ready to use.
